NAARI – Workshops Dedicated to Women

Hello and Welcome to Kala Kollective. NAARI is a set of workshops dedicated to all the beautiful women out there. 3 days, 3 workshops, lots of learning and unlimited fun guaranteed! Workshops are from 20th April – 22nd April. Here’s the last workshop of the series.

ABOUT MADHUBANI
Traditionally done on freshly plastered mud walls and floors of huts,Madhubani is now practiced on cloth, handmade paper and canvas. Madhubani painting is a depiction of men & its association with nature and the scenes & deity from the ancient epics.
Natural objects like the sun, the moon, and religious plants like tulsi are also widely painted, along with scenes from the royal court and social events like weddings. The art of Painting using Natural colours which is now replaced with acrylics, inks and poster paints with intricate decorative designs drawn with wooden stick pens and black markers are used creatively to fill all the empty spaces in the painting.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
This workshop focuses on traditional forms with authentic style of painting using tools to give you the original feel of the state of Mithila and then apply it to a range of Home Decor products. Participants will get hands on experience to create and apply Madhubani artforms on various surfaces and use it to create intricately beautiful Tea kettle along with small tea glasses to go with it! Colorful and quirky kettles look very stunning and catch one’s attention almost immediately. If you are someone who is always on the lookout for artsy and quirky home decor products, then this workshop is a perfect fit!

ABOUT WORKSHOP CURATOR – SUKRITI SUREKHA
Sukriti Sureka is an artist who prevails from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Painting for her is a medium to express and bring to light, issues and concepts which cannot be described with words. She works with various mediums and forms. Abstract and surreal themes are depicted prominently in most of her works.

Madhubani art form has been passed on to her by her mother and grandmother and she continues to paint this art form in contemporary ways. She also does murals, paper craft and charcoal sketches.

Sukriti has done her schooling from Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls School, Jaipur; where she was introduced to various mediums of art. She completed her graduation from Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai. She has taken training under Madhubani artist Kamini Devi (Muzaffarpur) to further refine her Madhubani art form. She has done a diploma in Fine Arts from Sir J. J. school of Art, Mumbai.

WHO CAN JOIN?
Anybody above the age of 12 years.
