===========================================

One always experiences an inimitable reflection of an artist’s inner and outer realm in his creations. Why does that happen? A reason I could gather is the love affair between the soul and the art process. And maybe this is why Marc Chagall stresses the importance of soul saying that “Art seems to me to be a state of soul more than anything else.”

In my creations, one often relishes the many facets of spirituality, poetry, lyrical compositions, surrealism, reminiscence, the hiding and seeking of characters and elements. Natural phenomena such as mirage, rainbow, twilight, camouflage; the infinite colorful birds, animals, fish, butterflies, flowers, trees, leaves, oceans, rivers, mountains, and their cordial relation with each other are never-ending sources of inspiration for me. While at times the society, it’s culture, sarcasm, mischief, and mundanity become important.

In essence, my works sway in and out of reality.

Exactly a year ago I exhibited a series of paintings titled ‘Kadamba’. The feeling of depicting episodes from Radha-Krishna’s eternal love story was ineffable. Gokul, Mathura, Vrindavan, Yamuna, the Gopis, the Gwalas, Kadamba, Krishna Leela; they all came alive on the canvas through my imagination. While working on this series I got profoundly engrossed in Indian miniature paintings. The subject matter, compositions and their way of portraying events impressed me. This experience gave birth to newer love songs.

I developed a liking towards various subjects, events and characters from the Pahari, Kangra, Rajasthan, Malwa, Deccan and Mughal schools, which later emerged as completely new forms in this series. I admired numerous episodes such as Radha-Krishna playing hide and seek, of them playing Holi together, their getting angry at each other, and then cajoling the very next moment or Shivji lovingly gazing Parvatiji in her sleep. While processing these imageries in my mind, I experienced that love is perpetual. The ways of expressing it are inexhaustible. For eternity it is going to remain intact, this ethereal love. These realizations over time encouraged me to create ‘From Here To Eternity’.

Come, let us all, experience the universe from here to eternity.

Happy Viewing!
