Interwoven Histories: Art Traditions of the Silk Route

Curated by Falguni Bhatt

Set in the historic Bikaner House, this inaugural exhibition explores the Silk Road’s historical and cultural significance through contemporary sculptural art. Translating the spirit of the Silk Road into compelling three-dimensional art, each artwork is a visual narrative that reflects the diverse landscapes, people, and commodities that once traversed this transcontinental trade route.

The ambitious curation combines works by 14 promising young and emerging contemporary artists with practices that hold a light to the future of sculptural art. Through ceramic and stone artworks, they pay a contemporary homage to the civilisations, stories and exchanges of the Silk Road.

We invite audiences to embark on a visual journey through time along the iconic Silk Road.

Participating Artists:

Devesh Upadhyay, Indrani Singh, Khushboo Mandani, Kinjal Shah, Kopal Seth, Mansie Shah, Milan Singh, Nidhi Sabhaya, Ruddhi Vichare, Sakshi Agarwal, Souvik Das, Suraj Sahu, Sushma Anand & Veena Chandran.

Quote from the Curator:

“The theme was chosen to help us explore how different cultures influenced each other along the Silk Route. Unravelling the story of connections and shared creativity among various societies, this show captures the role of art in uniting communities and shaping their traditions.” – Falguni Bhatt
